The brief
More space. Still the home they love.
A cedar and glass addition gives a mid-century home a generous new gathering space while keeping its original character close.
The challenge
The family loved the scale and warmth of their brick home, but the kitchen sat apart from daily life and the garden. The brief was to create one generous place to cook, gather and step outside without allowing the addition to overwhelm the original house.
Our response
A low cedar-clad volume sits alongside the original brick house, joined by a glazed transition that gives both parts room to read clearly. A wide garden opening brings light into the kitchen and family room, while a stone terrace extends the space outside.
