The brief
A sheltered place to come together.
A covered dining terrace, outdoor kitchen and planted courtyard make a quieter place to gather through the changing seasons.
The challenge
The garden had room to spare but no comfortable place for everyday meals or longer evenings outside. The owners wanted a sheltered space close to the house, with a useful cooking area and planting that softened the paved courtyard.
Our response
A simple cedar canopy defines the outdoor room. A compact kitchen runs along its rear wall, leaving a generous dining area and clear routes between the house, terrace and garden. Stone paving and low retaining edges give the courtyard a calm, connected ground plane.
